Designing a low-friction mental health consultation platform
Telepsych logo.png
🔷 1. Context

Telepsych is a platform that connects patients with licensed mental health professionals through digital consultations.

The goal was to make seeking help feel safe, simple, and emotionally comfortable while enabling doctors to manage appointments efficiently.

🔷 2. The Problem

Users seeking mental health support often face:

• hesitation in booking due to emotional vulnerability
• confusion while choosing the right specialist
• overwhelming information and medical jargon
• trust barriers in online consultations

This leads to decision paralysis and drop-offs before booking.

🔷 3. Why This Matters

For users:
Delays in booking can mean delayed help during emotionally sensitive periods.

For the platform:
Lower booking completion = reduced engagement and trust.

🔷 4. My Role

Product Designer responsible for:

• user flow simplification
• information architecture
• interaction design
• building trust through UI patterns
• designing patient & doctor journeys

🔷 5. Key UX Decisions I Made

Reduced emotional friction

Simplified language and removed clinical terminology where unnecessary to lower psychological barriers.

Clear specialist discovery

Structured filters and categorization to help users quickly identify relevant professionals without cognitive overload.

Progressive information reveal

Instead of showing all data at once, information is layered so users make decisions step by step.

Trust-building design

Used visual cues like credentials, reviews, and secure consultation indicators to increase confidence.

Appointment clarity

Simplified date-time selection and confirmation to avoid hesitation at the final stage.

🔷 6. Outcome / Impact

This design approach improves:

• decision confidence
• booking flow clarity
• emotional comfort
• reduced cognitive load
• higher likelihood of completing consultation bookings

🔷 7. What I Learned

Designing for emotionally sensitive contexts requires:

• empathy-driven UX
• clear but non-overwhelming information
• building trust before pushing action
